Temporary storage warehouse is the place indicated in the permit issued by the customs authorities, where the goods not permitted are temporarily stored . This occurs primarily in the case of:

the need to complete the documentation for the customs declaration, or transshipment and further transport, outside the border of the Republic of Poland to clear customs before the appropriate customs office in another country of the European Union
the need for additional testing of the goods, for example, at the Sanitary Department
the need to deal with missing formalities with suspended customs and tax duties

In the temporary storage warehouse, goods may be stored for a maximum of ninety days, and no repair operations may be performed on them. Any operations performed on the goods stored in the temporary storage warehouse may not lead to a change in the appearance or technical characteristics of the goods. Goods may be removed from this type of warehouse only in the quantity declared on the Import Summary Declaration.

The benefit for entrepreneurs of being able to temporarily store goods in a warehouse is primarily that they can be temporarily, safely stored. During the optimal period of up to 90 days, the entrepreneur has time to complete the missing formalities for the release of goods, without having to return them directly to the shipper.

Temporary storage versus bonded warehouse - learn the differences

Both a temporary storage warehouse and a bonded warehouse are storage places for different types of goods. However, they differ in the rules under which goods can be stored in them and in the scope of activities performed in them.

Storage of goods in a temporary storage warehouse is limited in time. This time should be used by the entrepreneur to complete the necessary documents, but the goods themselves must remain in an unaltered state. It is not allowed to perform any operations related to packaging or changing its properties. Moreover, the goods entered into the warehouse must be brought out or released in the same quantity as originally declared.

In contrast, goods in a bonded warehouse can be stored indefinitely. In addition, storing goods in a warehouse allows for packaging, repackaging and gives the opportunity to move them out in batches.
